hi everyone!
i just had one question. i recently bought a baby african burmese (about 3 months ago), and she is very sweet, calm and happy, eats very well, but i noticed since the day we got her, she makes a popping noise when she breaths. ive heard that this is a symptom of respitory infection, but she seems fine.
i would appreciate any feed back anyone has. thankx

Welcome to the forum.

Now lets start with the basics. What are your temps and humidty? Substrate? Any other info about the husbandry of the snake will help.

I'd also like to point out Burmese Pythons are not from Africa, they are from
Southeast Asia.

But anyway.....what Fred said!

Sounds to me like a piece of stuck/unshed skin still in her airway/nose area. Try upping the humidity to around 75-80% for a few days (keep the cage clean as germs multiply much more quickly in high humidity), and if that doesn't seem to help, try soaking her in warm water for an hour or so (make sure the water stays around 83-85*F).

Could this be an African Rock python? Their colors/patterns are a bit similar...

Hey now, I wasn't being mean.....but I had the same thought that herpivore had....is it an African Rock, or a Burmese...LOL

Does it look like this:

Or like this:

baby Burmese Python

Not many people keep Rock Pythons, but they are readily available. Chances are it's a burm, but either way the advice given above is what you should follow as these species are pretty close husbandry-wise.

Clicking and/or pooping sounds in baby burmese is typically from low humidity conditions. As you've been led to believe, many folks associate these sounds with a respitory issue. Most often it s not, though sometimes it could be.

As pointed out, proper humdity and occasional soaking can help remedy the problem. And if it is shed related these same procedures an help fix that as well. Along with proper temps of course too as Fred asked about. :)

Good stuff folks.
