Should be able to take it as long as it is the right size.

I don't see a problem either.

Sounds like a plan to me!

Shouldn't be a problem.

the only thing

what if your snake gets the chinchilla taste and likes it, then decides it doesn't like rats. Are chinchillas always going to be available?

Everyone knows chinchillas taste like chicken.....

What kind of snake are we talking here?

If your feeding a boa....shouldn't be a problem, I switch mine from rats, to guniea pigs, to rabbits, never have they flinched...LOL

I know some people that feed their boa hamsters (and yes the breed them) because once they gave him one, he never went back.

Out of all of our boas I can honestly say I have never had a problem changing between prey items. If it is small and furry they will eat it.

That may be with your boas, but taking the chance I wouldn't do it. I've seen a couple boas get hooked on G. Pigs, and a few that would never move past mice.

But whatever, if your boa takes it and everythings fine cool, but if gets hooked on them have fun finding chinchillas regularly.

Id say that is the exception not the rule. Its not very often at all that a boa will get hooked. They are not usually picky about what they eat.

The point is even if its only a 1 out of 100 chance it will get hooked, is it worth it, knowing the fact the prey is generally a lot harder to come by and a lot more $$.

I wouldn't stress about it.

Yeah actually the point is that it hardly ever happens. I've kept more boas than I can even remember never had a one have issues switching back and fourth. Well in the Colombian and BCC categories anyway. There are plenty of snakes out there that are more prone to get hooked on certain prey items...BCIs and BCCs tend not too, personally I believe this due to the fact that are one of the more oportunistic snakes out there, taking anything from Rodents to Birds if they get a chance. I guess the only way I would shy away from it is if it was a "picky" eater in the beginning, otherwise I wouldn't give it a second thought.

No actually that is not actually the point. I don't care if you've kept a millon boas and never had a problem. I bet you haven't fed any of them a chinchilla.

Switching between cheap rodents is one thing. Orginally my post I asked would these be available all the time or not. Its weird hearing of a frozen chinchilla how did it die? Not to mention how does the freezing process harm the skin? Can the fungus still grow or give them skin problems? Not to mention do you know the nutrional Value of a chinchilla? And with the nutrional value and possible skin problems (from the freezing/unthawing or getting wet process)

Weather or not boas don't TEND to get hooked, the point is they CAN. Its not Impossible.

it would be a one time thing just till they get some quinea pigs or rabitts
it died of natual causes it was the store pet they said it would not harm the snake. I just wanted to make sure they could eat it.

I just wanted to make sure they could eat it.

and to that the answer is yes. As long as it isn't to big for the snake it can eat it.

You can get it to switch back and forth...no problem, may be a little work and some patience if it does decide it likes just chinchilla (I think unlikely) but a boa should be easy.

Look at it this way we have around 25 boas here and all of them eat a variety of prey and have no problem going form one to another.
