View Full Version : Monty has escaped again!!!
I feel like such a f***ing idiot as Monty has escaped again!!!! Monty went missing last Fri. This time she escaped from the back of her tank, where the cables to her heaters and thermostat go through a plastic insert with a catch on it! When I checked on her Fri, had realised she had gone, noticed the hole in the back of the tank I was so gutted!!! I have turned the whole house upside down again, I'm tearing my hair out and I feel so low right now! This time I'm thinking maybe she got outdoors, have spoken to neighbours, am expecting the worse now!!!! Was hoping not to have to do another post like this. Sorry to go on and hope I haven't sounded like the complete f***ing idiot I now feel!!! Troy

Sounds like you need to modify that cage or get a new one

Good luck finding him. Yeah, I'd say a more secure cage is in order.
I'm sorry you lost him... hope he turns up!
If you do find him, you most def. need to fix up that cage or get a new one!

Sorry for the snake escaping, and I hope you do find him soon.. I would get a different cage if he is escaping the current one. My monitor would escape his cage when I first got him once he got 2 feet. I had a boa that would escape from the same aquarium I used to have because of the top... It took me 3 days searching and one day I checked a lamp by her cage and she was curled up in it... so I fixed the cage and never had a problem.. None of my current snakes ever escaped their cages at all..

I'm really SO sorry to hear Monty got out again. Don't take it so personal as they are in fact great escape artist. I would check around the pipes for your plumbing in the house. Where mine always go to stay cool and dormant to sustain life until they finish worrying us to death and we find them.
Please keep us up to date. They can actually live longer if they can go into a cool damp area and more or less go into a hibernation status such as many do in Brumate.

Sorry to hear he's missing.
Look in all your dresser drawers, behind /under the entertainment center, look in your closet. This is going to sound lame but think like a snake. Where would you hide? Look under your couch. Look into every cramped tight place. Even places you think he can't fit. It will amaze you to know that even snakes of good size can fit into the smallest spaces. :behindsofa:
Best of luck!

I had my pastel bp get out the other day and went looking franticly. I looked behind every place that I thought that he would be. Behind every place that was warm. nothing. so I started pulling that couches away from the walls and flipping them upside down. then when I got done tearing my house apart one of the kids asked if I had looked under the hide a bed couch and I had not because there is only like an 1/8 of an inch from the bottom of the couch to the floor and didn't think that he could fit under there. But when we pulled out the bed there he was laying right on top of the air conditioner vent. we got him and put him back in his cage that I am still unsure how he got out of that rubbermaid tote. The point is everyone says look where it is warm. I found mine in the coldest spot of the house. So look EVERYWHERE.

When we first started, our ball python got out of its cage. It was missing for a couple weeks. Then one night after I gave the kids a bath, I forgot to drain the tub. The next morning, we found her hanging out around the sides.

My female Ball Python gets out at least four times a year faithfully and I redid her cage so she no longer escapes.
Each time she got out I found her either under my kitchen sink behind the copper plumbing and the rest of the time she was under the bathtub wrapped around the copper water lines. She always goes to a dark cool place and that makes sense seeing how they are aware they aren't getting fed and they will naturally try to stay cooled down to lower their metabolism so they can survive longer with a lower core temperature and without feeding. This way their metabolism slows down so their body doesn't use their stored fat as rapidly. Anyone that took science and biology in school would know this is the perfect way for a cold blooded animal to sustain life and my female Ball surely confirms it.
Also they like to wedge themselves between/behind cabinets and just suspend themselves and when she did this a couple of times it was also she wedged herself behind my metal cabinet on the coolest wall in my entire house.
