hey i have seen a few people using these on racks and cages i think boa masters even uses them they would not work for my cages but i thought since it is the time of year for the stores to be selling them it would be a good topic for this section.

has any one used them?
how well do they work?
how much heat do they put out?

and while on the subject i saw some 67 watt heat cable so same questions on that stuff to...

I bought some of the light ropes a few years back right after Christmas when they were on sale with the intention of trying them on a rack but they are still sitting in the box. Oh well...guess I can't answer that!

As far as heat cable, I don't really like it. I have it on 5 of my AP cages and would've rather went with almost any other heat source. The heat is very uneven...I think heat tape works better.

Light ropes work.....Used them on my Tarantula and Scorpion Breeding rack a while back...they don't give hardly any heat, but the light output is a little low for my tastes...worked well for dark loving Arachs. but I'm not sure I would like it for snakes. Just personal preference though.

I am actually using Zoo Med Heat cable in my 4 foot cages, I actually do like that....but again personal preference. It's setup so it heats a false floor above it. But in racks I usually use the heat tape.

I'd like to use light rope on some to-be-built-in-future racks, but nothing yet...

Heat cable works well in selected setups - as Brad mentioned, with a false floor, or for heating (in my case) a tub containing several smaller tubs housing babysnakes. I don't think it radiates enough heat for a ceiling setup. I like that it's already waterproofed, but it's expensive and I wouldn't use it for a basking spot. It probably wouldn't work (in the cage) for anything other than a snake, though - too easy to bite or scratch into.
Mine is the Zoo Med stuff, too - not sure if that's the 67 watt variety you mentioned.

All of the Vision racks we have use heat cable. We are also using it to heat Manson's cage in both cases it works fine.

I know boaphile uses these in their racks specifically because they dont put off much heat. I think they look pretty cool!
