I know alot of people are going to breed for the first time this year and one question i havent seen addressed too much is what if the female gets eggbound. So if anybody wants to throw in info on this it might help in the future. What are the signs? What is the best plan of action? Is there ways you can help? Anything relating to that
I've only delt with it once , as far as a fully eggbound female. I've had a few that retained an egg or two for a while and then deposited them later.
From my understanding and experience its more from improper husbandry during the process. Not so much with age/size like is mentioned quite often in the past and currently. Temps that are too high, or low for that matter. Low humidity, etc.
Unfortunately the female I had that became eggbound has to be put down. But I know of others that passed the eggs on their own. Manual manipulation is possible, but risky in regards to possible internal tissue damage. A vet visit would be best. Though to my understanding a female is no longer considered breedable most times after the surgery,
