View Full Version : Frog Question
I have a question about dart frogs?
I have seen couple post with pictures on them. Like I stated in one. I almost ended up with a collection..LOL
Ok, I have seen the set up they need. tank wise. But, can you put all dart frogs together. Example. I liked the red-eyes. But, I also Like the color full one with Yellow, orange, Blue. ( I am sure there is a name for them)
I know they have to have so much tank per frog. But, what else do I need to know before deciding what kind to get or what size tank I need?
And NO, The Monitor isn't going to get to snack on them..LOL
Thankx,
Jess

Well it looks like you are off to good start already! I'm not familiar with the Red-eyed dart frogs, are you sure you are no confusing that with Red-Eyed Tree Frogs?
You shouldn't have a problem keeping most of the ssp. of dart frogs together though....but it wouldn't be a good idea to keep Darts and Tree Frogs, or other species in the same tank.
Since you seem to be pretty well versed in the basics already the only other thing is providing appropriately sized prey items for the darts, they require smaller prey items such as Flies, Fruit Flys, pinhead crickets, ect. If those are readily available to you, there shouldn't be a problem, if not you may want to look into culturing your own, most of the fly species are easily cultured and you can even culture a "wingless" variety so they aren't flying around your house (in case of escapes LOL)

LOL,
Yeah good start alright, Yes, I guess the red eye are tree frogs ha,, LOL
There is all ways an escapes LOL( wingless for me) I have learned that a LONG time ago.
The dart frog just cracked me up with there little chests pushed out and looking so big and bad. ''right"
I just didn't think the tree frog has a lot of color? But, the red eyes did.
I seen the set ups at the last show I did. Found out a little info. I may bring a set up home the next show in Sept.
Thank you for all the info. Brad,
I rather know as much as I can before getting into something over my head,

LOL, nah no worries, some of the treefrog species are very colorful, I could see where someone might get them confused. LOL
But yeah no problem, anything I can do to help. Good luck on the new project!

I had toyed around with the idea of putting a group of dart frogs in one of the large exo-terra cages. I thought it would make a nice display.

Patrick is really great at dart frogs...I'd most definitely recommend him (I bought from him a long time ago when I had darts, got sick of flies everywhere , the "wingless" variety, so I got rid of them). I'm sure he'd be able to answer all of your questions too. I've heard his setup is phenomenal!!
Thank You Matt,
I will check it out for sure.
