View Full Version : Suki hates me
Mr. Mason,
Suki hates me. Did you tell her to hate me before you sent her to me?
Seriously people, can a snake just hate people? Suki really does not like people. I have been trying to get her "tamed" down a bit since she is growing faster now but she is down right nasty.
How do you handle a nasty girl? I need a refresher course on handling those who do not want to be handled and how to show them the light.
People are not rats!

well it takes time but if you work hard at it and don't put them away as soon as you get tagged the 1st time they tend to start "putting up with you" a little more and more each time i also notice that keeping them full helps calm them down while they are young
hooks are a great help to but you still may take a few bites in the process.
i am against handling with gloves for a couple reasons but the big one is once you get the snake use to be handled with the gloves then you have to ween them of the gloves to barehands and that is a whole new smell all together so i just keep the bandaids handy and work with them till it hurts lmao... just keep on trying is all i can say they will chill out eventually......

LOL, Well I can tell you how I go about it.
When dealing with a nasty snake, I remove them from the cage (with a hook) then place them on the floor, once there I just simply sit down with them, depending on how nasty they are they will often sit there watching you, before they start to explore, once they start moving on their own I use the hook first to start moving them around on the floor, kind of checking to see what they will do, then I'll start sliding my hands underneath them and letting just kind of cruise....it's a long process with some, but I have found that with particularly nippy ones eventually they will come around, just takes some patience and time.

Some just are intent on testing ones patience for sure, lol. As Brad and Sam both pointed out, being patient and just keep going is first. Then keeping going through the initial bites, lol. I agree alot with what Brad mentioned of letting the snake cruise. If you can get to roaming, looking around a bit and go slow and easy with the contact they seem to eventually settle some.
It works look what Sam did with Anne, lol.

Martini, the green I got from Jim was that way. Mean as hell. :evil:He has calmed down now with a little work. He still likes to be hissy in his cage but its his cage so I let him get away with it. As was said before, time and patience is the key. Its been a while since his last strike but im still not as comfortable with him as some of the others. I have noticed that the nicer the quality, the more attitude you get. Kinda like a hot chick. lol
Just use slow deliberate movements and wear long sleeve shirts at first. I put on a long sleave shirt and pull the sleave over my hand in the first initial contact moments just in case of a stike it doesnt hurt as much but it is VERY important to tell yourself NOT to pull back because of the fabric hooking the teeth. This way your natural smell is still there and removing the sleeve from your hand takes a fraction of a second. Hope this helps some:yo:
