I got a new long haired cat a week ago. Even if I smell like a cat? And the cat walked around the room smelling like one on the floor pillows and what not. Would the Burm think it's a food scent if I take her out to be held?:confused2:lmk!

LOL...I gotta say I was a little scared when I saw the headline, those 2 words in the same sentence.....well, LOL

At anyrate....as a general rule you should be okay, due to the fact that snake hasn't gotten a taste for cat, though I wouldn't let the cat and snake out together, the smaller heat signature could spell trouble.

Always a good idea though to avoid accidents....to keep small furry animals away from large carnivorous critters. And be mindful that you may smell like a food item....it's really hard to say, but my wife has cats and I haven't had any issues with them mistaking me for prey yet.

I'd err on the side of caution as well Elvi. Even if they don't necessarily know the scent of a cat, they could just react instinctivly and bite first and ask questions later, lol.

I would deffinatly change my clothes and wash her sent off before handeling your burm. I have a cat too, and my snakes know the difference between my scent and the cats. They have never acted on it , but just to be safe, also, so they don't learn the smell of the cat and get the idea that she may be food.

I would keep them seperated at all times and not even allow the cat near the enclosure if it can be avoided. I've saved my cats furry butt twice from being bitten (and possibly eaten) by my large pythons. I didn't shut the door all the way to the snake room and needless to say I have one very smart cat who can open doors with the right kind of handle on it.

In the wild, and there have been a few domestic cases, of large pythons eating dogs and cats. It's not normal prey but they're not going to pass up a free meal so to speak.
