pretty much just put it in the freezer for a while(i usually do it for a day). Then just bring it back out and let it sit and warm back up to room temperature. Then just put it in the tanks.

We have never done that with aspen. Just stay away from Kay-Tee brand. There are a few people that have gotten mites from them.

I never freeze my aspen and I use it in most of my cages. I use "Aspen Snake Bedding" and have never had a mites from it. I don't know what stores carry it because I get it at the show in large bags but im sure you find it in stores somewhere. Prob Pet Smart. Here is a link that might help you. http://www.zoomed.com/db/products/EntryDetail.php?EntryID=126&DatabaseID=2&SearchID=1
Im also going to start using paper with my larger snakes and thought this would work great. Better than papertowls and looks nicer than news paper. My cages are 2 foot deep so I use a 2 foot wide roll and pull and cut to length.

I use Aspin for some of my snakes. I never have froze it, but I guess you could. I even use the KayTee brand. I have never had an issue with it. I also like to use fir bark chips. I think it looks more attractive then cypress, and does just as good a job. And my snakes seem to like it.

I use Kay-tee too, and haven't had mite issues, but I'm sure it's just luck of the draw. I did try to switch but the only other kind I found was much larger and rougher in texture and I didn't like it.

thanks for the links! i use something like the roll of paper but i get it from lowes it's brown and i think it's called butcher paper not sure though i get a roll of like 300-400ft for $10. i use it with my burms it soaks everything up and theres not really any mess left to clean.

Instead of freezing if you are worried you could dump the aspen in a large rubber maid and spray it down with PAM in there long before you use it. We did that for a while until we found a replacement for Kay Tee we were happy with.

I used to use aspen, and have debated going back to it.
Does it seem to hold heat better then newspaper?
It was just such a mess. And the bigger these guys grow the more it became a pain to shovel it out.

I have been using this:http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.asp?model=S-3652&ref=1961 for years, seems to soak everything up and provides a little bit more surface than regular kraft or butcher paper.
I am going to order a couple more rolls because I am down to maybe two more cage changes worth before I run out.
It is also available in several widths.

Troy, that link is dead. The stuff I use is indented kraft so it has dimples all over it.
