I dont currently use belly heat but I have a friend that has 2 8 foot AP's and he is using belly heat and called me to ask what the temp should be. He said it got to hot when he just plugged it in and I told him it needed to be on a dimmer or rheostat. I told him I thought 75 to 80 would be good but im not sure so can someone please advise so I can tell him before he burns down the house or worse, the snakes.

Thanks

If he's using belly heat, that is usually designed to be the "hot Spot" should be running about 90-95 degrees, depending on the species.

Wow! Realy? Mark makes his AP's so the heat panel is on the right and the belly heat is on the left. I guess I will tell him to put it at 90 - 95. He has tics. I guess he could move the heat panel over to the left, over the belly heat. Thoughts?

Heat panels being mounted in an overhead fashion are designed to create an overhead heat-source, they can be used to create and overhead basking area or to help raise the ambient cage temperature....in the same fashion basking bulbs do, only with being ceramic and by design are safer.

Most localized heat-sources such as heat tape, heat rope, heat pads, ect. Are designed to heat a small area in the immediate vicinity of the heat source, they actually do very little for raising ambient cage temps perhaps +5 or so degrees overall at best.
