I was wondering if it is advisable to place my snake's plastic water bowl directly on top of his hot spot (UTH separated by two inches of aspen) to increase humidity. Would this be ok, or would the dampness collect under the water bowl and become a breeding ground for bacteria? His enclosure is cleaned and aspen changed every 7-10 days.

Shouldn't be a problem though I would keep an eye on it if it does start getting damp, just change the bedding in that area more often.

One thing, while placing a water dish over or underneath a heat source will speed up the evaporation process, it will also heat the water....you should make sure the water doesn't get too warm, and it would be advisable to add a second water dish away from the heat source for drinking purposes so the snake isn't forced to drink heated water. Just a suggestion.

so far the bowl's been on the spot for 26 hours and water is still just below room temp, but I added another small bowl at the opposite end anyway. I went ahead and put him back in the enclosure and I'll continue to monitor the water temp!! Thanks, Sabrina:D
