It's bound to happen..., now the only remaining question is...did he draw blood? You're never really inducted into the club unless you bleed a little. ;)
Just remember...no matter how tame, how easy to handle, how well you think they know the routine...they'll surprise you when you least expect it if you let your guard down. You might have zoomed in too fast for him & he thought "predator" and reacted instinctively.
Ever consider hook training?

ya he drew blood, barely though, 2 little dots, so guess im in the club, i figured he was too little for hooks, he's only like 26 or 27 inches long

Never to soon to start hook training. Oh yeah and welcome to the club.
I'm with Fred on the hook thing...they are never too small. Though I usually don't use hooks on small snakes, it's still good practice!

I fourth that notion. This was the worst bite I've ever taken and it was from a short little Afrock....http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f284/Nicksiepert1/DSCF0686.jpg
Didn't hurt at all but bled like crazy, I couldnt believe the jaw span the little guy had, from cheek to chin and he was under 4 feet too.
Never too early for hook training for sure!!!!:D
Welcome to the club!!!!

Fifth on the hooking. I hook all my snakes even the itty bitty babies. It's great training for them and teaches the keeper gentlness. They do make (maybe Brad does also) hooks for little /neonate snakes.
Oh and welcome to the club. They bite you because they love you!!!!

Well why don't ya e-mail me, or give me a call and we can discuss it....calling is sometimes easier since we can work out the details right there on the phone.
But my number is on the Website....best time to get ahold of me is from 12 noon to 2 am.

i agree! been tagged quite a few times several from my blood and others times were from my tic and burm. all occurred with the aid of a hook! problem is we don't have snake hooks here in these parts of the world!!!!:ohwell::ohwell::ohwell: i've had to use some makshift ones here which really sucks!
hey brad, do you ship overseas????
The Snake Guru

hey brad, do you ship overseas????
Yes sir I can. Pretty much anything but the "Monster Hooks" there is a size/weight limit for overseas shipments that makes shipping any of the "Monster" series VERY expensive. But pretty much anything else able to be shipped.

I agree 100% with hook training. Never used a hook for my boas until i got the triple hets. They have a feed response like a retic. I of course made my own, and they are getting a little big for what i have, so I believe a call to Brad is in order when i get back to Louisiana. Good Luck Bro!!! I think it will work out great for ya!

Never too early to start hook training. Should have known that when I had my little girl. At 3 feet she bit me 2 times on the fingers:rolleyes:

They do sometimes go through small periods of time where they may not want to be messed with, such as when they are starting to go blue, for shedding, ect.

he just finished shedding like 2 or 3 days ago though, could that be it??

and i just noticed not too long ago that hes kind of staring up, not straight up, and he's not doing it all the time, just every once in a while, and he looks like he might be breathing faster than normal, is something wrong with him??

Yupper! LOL I call that one sensitive skin syndrome....LOL They get a little naughty befor e and directly after shedding because the new skin is very sensitive to touch, usually takes a few days before they relax out again.
The huffing in his sides is what they do when they think they are going to strike at something....when your feeding next time watch closely and you'll see them start puffing in the sides, more oxygen to the muscles makes for a faster harder strike....kind of like a little pre-charge before they go full bore.....boas it seems are especially adept at this little manuver almost every one of mine does it before nailing something...or getting ready to nail something. As long as he isn't discharging from the mouth, or gaping when he breaths I'm pretty sure that's all it is.

cool, i was beginning to worry, hes not gaping his mouth or anything, atleast i know everythings cool, if something were to happen to him, i dont know what the hell i would do, i probably wouldnt get out of bed for weeks
The Snake Guru

Well we definitely want to prevent that....LOL
Sounds to me like a normal healthy boa though.

so i should pretty much just leave him alone for a couple of days, and then he should probably be a little less pissy???

That's what I would do.

well he's still acting kind of pissy, he didnt bite me, but he looked like he almost wanted to, he's always been very sweet, is it still because his skin is sensitive?? how long does it take for the skin to get unsensitive???
