We were changing the water today and she was in her hide box dead! She was fine just a couple of days ago. Her belly was all nice and pink; about to shed. And now she's gone! I can't believe it!

We got her in September with her sister who died only 4 days after getting them. We got them from a guy at the local Herp Show.

Hmmmm, well that doesn't sound quite right there.

Do you have any info. on thier origin? Such as were they Captive Bred? Imports? Farm Raised? Ect.ect.

Sounds to me like there may have been an underlying problem, that just took longer to catch up to this one.

When we got Lily and her sister (Morticia) we had gone to our first Herp Show. So we were caught up in the hype of all the exotics and stuff. The guy sold us both girls (about 3 months old he said) for $90 for both. From what I am hearing now, that was pretty darn cheap. As soon as we got home we realized this guy didn't give us a card or care sheet or anything. So I don't know whether they were captive bred, caught or what. But I went online and looked up everything I could find on Borneos. After Morticia died I tried to get a hold of the guy. I had to contact the people that set up the Show so I could get the booth layout (I did remember exactly where I was when I bought them since it was a corner booth). With that I was able to track down the guy that actually rented the booth. He was sharing it with a buddy of his from Louisiana.

When I finally get a hold of him all he does is accuse me of doing something wrong and it was my inexperience that killed her. I told him that I had had ball pythons for 5 years and they were all fine and healthy and I had looked up the care online as soon as I got home and I was doing everything it said. Borneos had a little different care but if you can take care of a ball, you pretty much can take care of a Borneo. He said that since he had run out of care sheets (and that's why he didn't give me any) that he would refund half my money (for one snake). And that was the end of it. He had no more Borneos and hasn't called me to tell me if he's gotten any more.

I'm a little wary of snake shows now. I'll go to look but before I buy I'll make sure who it is.

Yeah you have to be careful when buying....not just from shows, but anywhere. There are those people (especially at shows) that will load up on right before the show on whatever they can get thier hands on and then go to show without knowing if the eating, or in good standing ect. ect.

A lot of times sitting there and talking to the person for awhile, asking questions, ect. will usually tell you a lot about the person you are buying from. But yeah $90 for both was VERY cheap, my guess is they were import/farm bred ones....which really tend to not do so well in captivity.

At anyrate it's hard to say at this point, about all you can do is say "lesson learned" and move fourth, still sucks though.

sorry for your loss, but you did learn a valuable lesson. i have been to many snake show's and it is outrageous what i've heard some "snake trader's" telling people! last one i went to, this 16 year old girl had just bought a baby norm BP, and this guy told her that it would be fine for her to house it with her 3 foot Retic!!!!!!! i quickly told her the error in that, but i think she still went home and did that very thing!:confused:she took what this guy said as gospel, and it's people like that guy saying ANYTHING to make a sale to noob's that has the government trying to ban our snake's!!!! just disgust's me!:yell::yell:

anyway, i'm ranting, sorry again for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Most likely they were CH animals and had an underlying problem before you received them, nothing you can really do. Anytime you buy animals like that it can be risky. Don't let that detour you from more bloods in the future though, just make sure you go to a more reputable person. Again sorry to hear, I've lost quite a few animals the same way unfortunately.

As long as you know you did your part, then as Jordan and Guru eluded to its not your fault most likely. I've talked to several folks that know bloods that aren't well established/healthy are sold all the time at shows or via the net.

Go with a known captive bred next time and things should turn out much differently. I too have delt with the same issue, but as stated IT SUCKS still. Hang in there.

That's so sad to hear! I'm sorry :-(

I got my first Borneo from questionable origins online, she came down with a strange swelling on the top of her head about a month later. I battled recurring horrific stomatitis infections with her for about 2 1/2 years before she finally had to be euthanized. My vet informed me after the pathology reports came back that she was actually suffering from an incredibly rare form of snake leukemia??? (Still waiting on that report BTW for those who were interested). Who knew. I don't know if that was related to her origins or not, but it sure sucked! I miss her still. So I know who it goes! My new little blood is from some very reputable herp people, and she's doing great.
