Surprise, we brought home more guests from the reptile show! Got 2 Pygmy chameleons, and I can't figure out what species they are, I think the 2 are different species--not that I care, I certainly don't need a hobby of breeding Pygmy chameleons, but I want to make sure they can cohabitate together.
One already ate 5 tiny roach nymphs :)
Michael is in charge of photos and will post soon...

Are they hard to care for?? They look so delicate!!

Well, we've only had them a few days, but they don't seem to be. I know what you mean. Lack of space is about the only thing that keeps me from buying everything I want. lol. But they're pygmies, so they don't take up much space. :D ;)

Thanks! Well the new born b. dubia roaches are small enough for them to eat, and we've got three colonies of those.

Yeah, if we didn't have a ready, steady supply of roach nymphs, I don't know that I'd be game. We got some free crickets at the NARBC show, and I now remember why I hate the stupid bugs. Hop all over, STINK, and harass the reptiles. The roaches are much less agressive, grow slower and are so much nicer to deal with.
The little green one finally ate something today--he could be eating while we're not home/watching, but it was making me nervous. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't being harassed or intimidated by the much larger brown leaf one. I found the smallest, newest roaches and put a few in the enclosure right next to him and he ate one! Phew! Now I can rest easy.
Piggy brown leaf pygmy ate 3 this afternoon (snagged 2 at one time and had a heck of a time trying to swallow both at once!), so I know he's ok...
I haven't read as much about them as I'd like to feel comfortable. I'm fascinated by the big chameleons, but don't have the time for a high maintence reptile. The skink and bearded dragons are garbage bellies and Leo the sulcata is an easy keeper...
Lately it's a chore to bend over with this baby belly, I need easy creatures to feed <G>.

That is good to see something eat when you are not sure it is:D
Question on the roach nymphs. If you don't know I hate bugs!!!
I have to T. That is have to feed. Crickets are Evil without a doubt:mad:
Are Roach Nymphs just baby roaches? or is it something else?
And anything that eats crickets can you get them to eat the roaches?
Thankx,
Jess

As far as I know, anything that can/will eat crickets will eat roaches. The nymphs are baby roaches, so imagine very very small dark tan pillbugs <G>. They are very harmless looking and a LOT less intimidating than adults. With a higher meat to shell ratio than crickets, you feed a lot LESS, pluss they don't chirp, fly, climb glass or STINK like crickets! We raise them and it's a whole lot less expensive than buying crickets too...
Mary
I don't want to change this topic so, Please look for another topic about roaches! I have questions..LMAO!!!
Thankx for the help.

i love my chameleon, hes so cool, i really like your pigmys too, my favorite part of mine is seeing how big his mohawk gets, lol, cuz hes a veiled cham, they can spit they're tongues pretty far huh?? its fun to watch them eat, a lot different than a snake, snakes are still more fun in my opinion though, lol
