Got him a couple of months ago. Has to be the coolest snake I have owned.

Well as you know he is QUICK. But once you get him out of the cage or his skull since he always stays in it LoL. He calms down a bit. Im working with him. Hopefully he will be fine.. I only seen him hood up once so i guess thats a good sign. And the hook ya made for me Brad works wonders.

Well that's cool man! Yeah they can be a little tricky...but you'll get used to it soon enough man!

Glad the hooks working out for ya man! Like I said that's the same design I use for FWC.

In that picture he is in a 10 gallon. I bought him and that was the only tank I had empty at the time.. he is in a 20L right now. Due for an upgrade soon as I get it built.

how long do they get and how big of an enclosure do they need?

reptilenut4sure
10-17-2007, 09:56 PM
They get around 8-10 feet so Ive been told. They are very very active snakes. So a big enclosure is needed.

Yea the skull was ment to be a "fogger" it uses plain water to fog. Its really nice..Problem is he thinks that its really nice inside so now its his 2nd hide. LoL.

I saw one of these at a pet shop near me around 2 years ago, and I really wanted it! LOL I was told this species was only mildly venomous and that it was a rear-fanged species. Is this true? If so, I am surprised that a pet shop in Tennessee had it for sale as any type of venomous snake is illegal to maintain here (unfortunately:pout:). However, that pet shop is closed now, so maybe . . . ? In any case, I think they are an awesome animal. You certainly have a beautiful one! And I love the effects of your tank! ;)

They are yes, but it isn't considered "life Threatening".....Swelling, irritation, numbness.....but nothing that'll put you 6 feet under.

Yea he loves the skull, Just kind of a pain to clean.. Because he dont get out of it LoL. Notice the blood on the tooth of the skull. That is from his last meal... He pulled the rat through the eye socket to eat inside it LOL.. He is crazy. :D

Kind of, but he really doesn't like to play games. Either you give him the food or ya dont lol. But he really doesn't strike at the food that aggressively, just takes it and starts munching.....Kind of funny tho my dad walked into the room where he was located. And out of nowhere he hooded up and struck at the glass.. My dad was all like "he was hooding up like a cobra"..I just kinda "coughs it is a cobra" LoL.

LOL, yeah they aren't really a striking snake, they pretty much just lauch themselves at prey then as you noticed start chewing....the chewing action is common in rear-fanged species the motion is what works the toxins into thier prey. Give him some time....he'll be meeting you halfway during feeding time! LOL
Sometimes I have hard time getting the top off the enclosure fast enough! LOL

Way cool set up.
I sold mine last year. I didn't have the time he needed. He calmed down and really like being held. They are some Very neet snakes. Mine got use to me. when others were around he acted diffently. His eye sight was much better then the other snake I have.

I did get taged once when he was young. I didn't have a reaction to it.
Best of luck with him.

Thanks glad you enjoy the setup and the FWC, Im actually in the process of getting him a bigger tank. might build one. but he is about the max size for the one he is in.. I firgure about 4x2 feet would be nice for him. And im doin my best not to get taged by mine, but man he is fast.

I hope you don't mind me asking. I know you have hooks, ( nice one's at that)
But, do you use them to take him out or are your snakes hook trained?
By rubbing there head 1st?

All mine are and it makes it really easy for them to calm down.
I am going to have to get a couple more. Since I have been on this site and seen the Good hooks. ;)

Well honestly I have been training all them, before I got my hooks i was feeding all them outside their tanks. I have been working on training all them. All is going well, but the FWC is really fast and doesn't like me reaching into the tank sometimes.. and he ususlly hides in the skull and you "CANT" get him out of that. so all around its hard to train that one. LoL.

Jess

I am sory I think you took what i was asking differntly then what I meant.
My fault.
I asked about hook training. I feed all my snake in there own cage. Never feed them anywhere else. Some I use a tong to feed some ( DON"T LAUGH) I put there food on a paper plate, They just crawl over to it and start eating.
The hook I use to rub them on the head when I open there cage. Kind of a knock at the door theme.
When I do that they know NO Food today,,
But, I believe what ever works for you,, Go for it. With in reason of course.

I couldn't image trying to get he out of your skull..LMAO!!!
Sorry, But I can picture me getting all pissed off:fear:

Lol. Well I understood what you were asking just got kind of off topic. Yes I hook train them, it does work well with all, Except my ATB he hates everyone lol.. And im working with the cobra he is coming around. Knows when it is feeding time and when it is not, but he doesn't like being picked up with the hooks. So im working with him on that.
