View Full Version : Constantly Trying To Escape
I have a female burm that is constantly trying to escape. She is always pushing against the plexiglass door of her cage trying to get out. I can't figure it out. Temps are good and humidity is right, but she just wants out. Any thoughts or ideas on what to check or try next would be appreciated.
Thanks

I feel your pain man! My female Retic does the same damn thing and her cage takes up almost a full room! LOL It's like she goes through these phases during the season changes....does it for a couple of months, then quits. this last time she was rubbing so hard she split a gash along the top of her head....healing up now, but rather disconcerting. There is nothing I have found that will get her to quit either.

I have tried all kinds of things. Feeding more often, raising temps, lowering temps. I have even tried taking her out and letting her roam for a half hour to an hour or so each day. Nothing works! Maybe she is just the type to want out...kinda like your retic, Brad.

Yeah I hear ya man! I've tried the same, but I'll tell you this....with the snakes I have owned over the years, there are just some that are "pushers" though usually they are Males around breeding season trying ever so hard to get at that female they smell across the room, this is only the second female that I have had that is completely adiment about wanting out of that cage during certain times of the year...LOL It's a pain but it's something we just have to deal with.

Crazy! My pushers have almost always been females...I had my het female retic get out tonight because I forgot to block her exit yesterday when I fed her.

she may be uncomfortable my girl ann(yes the nasty one) got out because i normally have her completely covered and i thought i would give her some day-light and uncovered her for a couple days needless to say she did not like it and decided to get out she got a little nasty that day.but she is completely covered again and she does not even try to get out she stays in a perfect coil just chillin'
anyway you may want to try that give her some privacy and see if that helps at all..if your temps and all are right it is worth a shot. throw a towel over the cage and let her think she is in her own little world i know i am not the only one who has had to do this.
Yeah it could be a secrurity issue. Though I will agree some are just a$$holes about pushing.
That's one adjustment I've been tinkering with the last year or so. Covering parts or areas of the cage to see how the snake reacts. It seems to work well with certain ones. BUt Im sure as always, there will be some that it does no good, lmao.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will give the towel a try and give her some privacy and let you guys know how it goes.

My new male has been doing the same thing. He lays across the door track of his Vision and constantly moves up and down the glass, occasionally trying to push his way into the tiny opening between the glass or at the other end of the door. If I open the door, ZOOM.... out he goes!!
So far, it's not a problem. He's not rubbing too hard or doing anything to hurt himself. I will just keep an eye on things for now and try the towel trick if anything changes.
