I have had my Burmese for about 3 weeks now. He had just finished shedding just before I received him. I am starting to get a little concerned because he has now been soaking for almost a full week straight. I take him out and clean the water daily then he just gets right back in and sits. I was thinking he was just gearing up for soaking, but how long do the usually soak before they shed? He is only a few months old, his length is approx 3 ft.

Could be possible that he has mites. Have you checked his body closely or do you see any in his water?

Some burms just like to soak a lot for no apparent reason. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you start seeing blisters from soaking too much.

That does seem to be a little much.

Double check there are no mites on him. They will soak a lot like this to kill off mites.

Also, make sure he is not to hot in the cage. I have seen snakes soak a lot to cool down.

Just go throw and check out his temps, humidity and check over and make sure he is clean of bugs.

If everything checks out, he may just like to soak a lot. If you want to solve that problem, a smaller water bowl normally works just fine.

Hope this helps some.

dang you guys are fast. I have noticed a few little mites on him and I bought some reptile relief and provent-a-mite, but it said it would dry him out and I wasn't sure if he was preparing to shed or not so thats why I have been waiting to use it on him.

If he doesn't look dulled out, I would go ahead and treat him right away. But you are right if they are in shed cycle you aren't supposed to use those products. Sounds to me like he's just trying to get them off though.

Thanks for all the fast replies. He is not dull looking and his eyes are nice and clear so I don't think he is in shed. I am going to treat him asap. Thanks again guys.
