The tattoo shop we have been dealing with is incorporating a serpentarium into thier customer lounge building. We are helping out a little with some animals and some knowledge.
The owner Eli is a great guy who has brought all of his herps down to the shop so he can actually spend some time with them since he is there most of the time.
I have talked to him about contacting you when things get going to get some snake hooks with their logo etched into the handles.

Here's an idea - a combination tattoo shop & reptile store... Two birds/one stone, ya know? :D ;)
BTW, thanks for posting the link to Tarpit Reptiles - I've actually learned a couple things there!!! Do you know if anyone feeds adult large monitors grown chickens? I hear about feeding poultry chicks all over the place, but adult chickens/poultry aren't too expensive and are readily available around here... Of course they'd be p/k and f/t as well.

Just cutting in. I have experience with this one. I've fed whole chickens, roosters. It's no problem. If they can't take them whole they take chunks off. It DOES make a huge mess and it DOES make their crap extra stinky and really freaking nasty looking. Then again so does fish.
NICE bite btw. I don't think she looks innocent in the second picture..I think she looks smug. Sorta like she's saying "That's whacha get."

Word of caution to anyone else. The same tricks for getting a snake to let go only make a sav bite harder.

Thanks, Dylan. I've read that monitors should be fed appropriately sized items, ie., nothing larger than their jaw width. Is it better for them to eat smaller items, or does it give them a little bit of a workout that way? :)

Best to stick with smaller food items. Monitors will rarely "Chew" thier food, they just gulp it down....to that fact I actually had a buddy of mine who took a video of his Black throat eating a live chick....it was baaad, the chick was still peeping all the way down, and did so for about 2 or 3 minuets even after it was already down the throat and in the stomac....they can be rather gruesome feeders.....not sure if I still have the video around or not but if I find it I'll post it up.

All of mine were fed assorted food items. When they ate shrimp, lobster or crab they pretty much crunched it up and swallowed it whole. Same thing with rats, rabbits, and pigs. They went whole because it was all significantly smaller than them. Tuna, salmon, haliburt, still born lambs, duck, chickens and pretty much anything on the largeish size was torn to pieces. I rarely fed fowl of any kind the mess SUCKED ass. For most monitors I stick with fish for large meals. Rodents tend to give them liver problems later in life. They also get chubby lol. The only thing worse than fowl was the lambs. Cleaning up that mess made me gag. They didn't really tear limbs off the way you'd expect..they head shook until what they wanted came off. Imagine seeing a wee little lamb flying across the room with a water monitor lamb leg in mouth chasing after it.

Now what do you use for fish? Bought at the supermarket kind, or are there frozen reptile suppliers? I could probably find people around here that raise fish for human consumption, too.
I know I've read that Niles need a fish(seafood) & fowl based diet, and Savannahs do best on an insect & fowl-based diet. How would one feed a 4-6 foot lizard on roaches, crickets, mealworms, and the like?

I never really bothered with insects. I did crickets/roaches as babies. After that I fed strictly roaches but only as an after meal or before meal snack. They do pretty much nothing for bigger animals honestly. For seafood I used simple fresh fish. Does your town/city have a fish market? Just go there and go shopping. Buying the good shit will cost you your right nut but hey..it's worth it. My girlfriend used to complain that my FAVORITE Nile got lobster once a month. I've never ever slacked on food quality. If you feed correctly and heat correctly the animals simply look amazing.
