Freeze?
I used some stuff like it for the high huimidity snakes....call eco-earth....pretty much the same stuff, works really nice.

Bed a beast is always known as coco fiber.. It is a good substrate for herps with higher hummdity requirments.. I currently use it for my AFT and plan to move my MHD to it when I put him in his new cage.. I have seen many people use it for BPs and boas..

I don't like it so much for dryer climate lizards. I used to use it in the shop alot when it 1st came out and found that it's best for humid type set ups, but needed to be changed alot because it would start to stink. In a dry environment it gets kinda dusty and doesn't look too nice.
When we had plated lizards or similar species I would use a mixture of chemical-free potting soil and sand with some bark mixed in and that worked really well. It's cheaper and looks nicer.
Hope that helps!!!

LOL I heard about this the other day on a UK forum I'm on. They freeze the reptile bedding before they put it in the cage. Supposed to keep any creepy crawlys from surviving that might be in the bedding so they don't make it to the cage. They also recomended microwaving it for a min or two. That way it cooks any animals or eggs and they don't survive to the cage. Sounded like a good idea to me.
As for the bed a beast I didn't like the way it got inbetween the scales and around the cloca of the snakes I had on it when I used it. personal prefrence I guess. I use fir bark chips and aspin.

thanks guys that helps. i wasn't sure cuz i use butcher paper right now and i don't like bedding to much.
but with my plated lizard if you let it dry out in the sun works great that way it isn't so wet. i like the way it looks and she always make a little hole to sleep in. it's really cute. but it also holds humidity great for my frog.

Ahhhhhhhh I gotcha.
Here's another sure fire way to avoid that....order it in direct....if it doesn't make it to a shop where mites may have been....they won't be able to hitch a ride...LOL
