I was going to post this in the boa section but I am looking for more than just boa people to respond to this.

As many of you know both Mike Greathouse and I are working on similar dwarf boa projects. Mike has Pip and I have Napoleon both are extremely small red tail boas.

My question to you guys is simple.

For the boa fan.
How interested in a boa that gets no bigger than a ball python sound? I am not talking a local that stays small but a genetic line of dwarf Colombian boas that may eventually be able to be combined with different morphs.

For the ball python or smaller snake fan.
Would a boa that stays that small be of some interest to you? I know there are people out there that like the look of a boa but don't like how much room it takes up or how much the food bill becomes when it is full grown.

Thats it in a nutshell. Let's hear what you guys think or if you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Do I really need to answer? LOL

But I will say....it's a novel idea, especially now a days when people run into the "space" issue more often than not.

You guys know I've been developing a huge interest in the dwarfs. And I think boas are beautiful, I think its a great idea! I'd definitely be interested in getting one or more of them.

In all honesty, I do have other projects that are first for me, and after ball pythons, I would love to add a blood, a GTP or ETB, and a Peruvian Rainbow Boa to my collection.

But once I get past that, I would love to have a columbian boa. A lot of my issues are space, so a smaller one would be great! I wouldn't neccessarily mind having one that gets a tad larger than a ball python (which is the blood's appeal to me) but also doesn't get huge either. If it would fit comfortably in a 3 ft X 2 ft X 1 ft cage, that would be awesome!

I'm not into boas much, but I think that if you can bring the convienient size of a ball pything to the boa lovers you'd have a really hot thing going... especially if you could get the morphs into the mix!
Great Idea. Hope it all works out for you

You should definitely work on this. Some people (like myself) like just about every kind of snake possible but you run out of room when your collection starts getting bigger. Heck the only retic I would get is one of the smaller guys. For me, the small size = more room for other snakes I enjoy so definitely get to work on this!! LOL

LOL Matt, I have been in a holding pattern for 3 years with this project just waiting for at least the age to get up there.

I am with Matt. I like retics for their pattern intence red eyes and what not, but I already have 3 burms and don't need any more bigger snakes. So for me a dwarf retic or super dwarf would be the option for me. You can turn that to boas aw well. I have one female already. She is already getting up there in size. If I could get a genetic dwarf boa that could fit in my sweater boxs like my balls I would be on it like a fat kid on a free slice of cake!!!

Smaller would defently be nice, only reason I dont have a RTB right now is because of space.. Of course if they carry a big price tag, that doesent help me or many others much..

I personally would be game for a smaller boa. Boa's normally require a fair amount of space and some decent sized prey items. Shrinking all of that would be sweet.

Business wise it could go either way. The boa market can either be VERY promising or very dangerous imho. It would all most likely depend on what was brought to the table OTHER than size. Small size is great and all but nobody is going to want to pay out big buck's for a normal albiet smaller boa when they can most likely get some fantastical morph for just a bit more. If you can keep them to under 400 or so you'll probably have a group of commited buyers looking for pairs to do their own breeder/introducing of visual morphs. I'm sure you know all of this already but I personally would just wait until I could produce the albino dwarf boa's and whatnot myself before I even thought about selling them to the public/selling them in pairs.
