I am torn between cutting plexi or making an inset screen top. I got the tank and stand for super duper cheap and it was brand new ($50) I plan to put a burrowing terrestrial in the tank with lots of substrate. I first thought I would divide the tank and put aboreals in it but that became too much of a project and started to look kind of crappy.

If you have any ideas, let me know. I can't decide on what would be best.

Best and easiest.....Acrylic Cut to fit in the inside lip with a couple of turn knobs (mini cam locks/knobs) for securing it....you can just drill in the air vent holes. (1/4" should take it flush with the upper rim).

That's what I would do anyway.

I'm getting annoyed!!!
It seems like whenever I read a post and decide that it's something I wanna chime in about Brad always beats me to it with THE EXACT ANWSER i would put!!!!!

HAHAHA!!! I guess I'm just too slow.
Brad's suggestion is perfect. I've actually done it with plexi on a bowfront for dart frogs and it worked great for anything needing humidity, just make sure you remember the knobs to make it easy to secire and get off.

Good Luck!!!

I took my lizzard lounge cage to a glass house when one of my surround sound speakers fell off the wall and went thru the lid. It was a split top that had a section that folded over. They were able to make a replica lid for me for next to nothing (abour 20 bucks for a glass lid that fit a 70 gal tank) and even drilled holes so I could put the turn locks back in it. Just a thought. The glass house will even have the stuff to make it a split top for you if you want and might even have the turn knob locks in stock and be able to put them in. Just a thought if you don't want the solid piece of acrilic that Brad mentioned before Loren could chinme in with the idea! LOL

The only problem I can see with that one is the lack of ventilation holes, with Chuck's Lizard Lounge the holes and vents are predrilled into the sides of the aquarium if I'm not mistaken?
With Meli's tank she doesn't have those so some type of ventilation would need to added in the top or somewhere on the tank. But the idea is sound....hell I would bet you can buy those plastic hinge pieces and incorperate it onto an acrylic top as well.
