Anyone have any kind of info on them? How big do they get? Do they generally have good termperment. A Reptile Rescue on Craig's List has a Macklott Python but I don't know mush about it. Any ideas or suggestions?

Fantastic snakes! They have a high degree of variability from olive greens to tans and browns, and any amount of speckling. Youngsters can be a bit nippy (more like mini-chainsaws) but they usually calm down pretty quick as adults, still temperment can vary depending on the individual, my female is quite relaxed once you get her out of the cage...they usually have an extremely strong feeding response. Wouldn't hurt to check them out, 5 to 7 feet is average though I've heard of some large females topping the 8ft+ range, they are much more slender than a boa constrictor though so not as much weight behind them.

In my opinion they are the most underrated python. They are also one of my favorite species I work with. They can actually get quite big if you let them. They have an amazing feeding response and I know of several people that have some that are equal in size to an adult olive python. Though they only get this big if you feed the crap out of them. The size also depends on what locality you get. They come from 3 different islands: Timor, Semau, and Roti. If my memory is correct the Rotis are the smallest and the Samaos are the largest with the Timors being the middle. I believe Timors are the most numerous in the pet trade as well. I think more people should keep this species. They are very easy to care for and breed quite easily as well and maintain a manageable size. Though as Brad said the hatchlings can be nippy, the babies I produced were like little non-venomous mambas. Though they calmed down pretty quick.

but still can get 5-7ft... Their pretty cool looking dont have ''hands on experience'' with them but dont hear much complaints on them...

We are now the adopted mommy and daddy of two Macklot's Pythons. My husband fell in love with them more than I did. These are 2 of the snakes from that huge reptile rescue they made in Pasadena, TX. After we got them we dropped in at Pets a Plenty to see about a bigger used tank and see about sexing them. One of them was definitely male. Super musk! Peuw! Eric picked up the male and he was already out and "presented". Eric calls to his assistant, - "never mind on the probe!" They are in mating so maybe we'll have babies. The male was in the end of his shed. He just finished up a minute ago. They are both now in the hidey hole. After they settle down I'll get some pics. They are a little hyper but very sweet. And they are so beautiful. We're thinking of names now. Trying to pick out a male/female couple names.

Congrats! You'll enjoy them I'm sure.
They can be a little "flighty" but if they didn't try to rip you a new one already handling really shouldn't be an issue.

Too fun....you'll be glad you got them!

We've come up with names for them. We all like to watch George Lopez but our son really is a George Lopez fan. So the Macklotts are now named George and Angie. They are still in the hidey hole doing what I think they are doing. My God George left that "musk" smell in my car on the drive to get then home. I think it will take several days of Open windows at work to get the smell out. Whew its strong.

Brad, you have Macks. Do you a hook for them? I know they aren't huge snakes but they are bigger and heavier than the balls. We always take our snakes out of their tanks and feed them in big plastic bins. I'l thinking that maybe a hook would make this easier. What do you think? And what size might I need. George is over 6 feet and at least 5 pounds. Angie is over 4 feet and around 3 pounds. Opinions? Of course I would only buy the hook from you!

LOL....yeah I use hooks for everything! At least for the initial getting them out part....she's got such an aggressive feeding response it sure comes in handy sometimes...LOL
But yeah we gotta hook for everything around here! LOL Probably look at the Gen2 styles they are by far my favorite hooks....made a neat Gen2 "U" that would work well for ya.....36" shaft? Probably what I'd go with.

I looked at your hooks on your sight. Since I'm about to start work I think I'll be sending you an email at lunch or tonight to get one on order. With Ball Pythons we don't need the hooks but I think these bigger and stronger Macks will definitely can use them.

Thanks!
