we have been learning more and more about sexing our snake. our hope in the future, is to become breeders. so at one point we will have to learn to sex our own snakes. so we have learned to "pop". we have used probes before but we had a female that probed a little too deep and we got worried that we may have hurt her. all turned out well, but we really dont want to have that happen again. we spend a lot of time at NERD, and they showed us how to pop.
so we bought 2 "female" ball pythons during december. you all know them as mrs. bigglesworth and duchess.
we weren't to sure about them being female, seeing that we bought them from some kid on craigslist that had no idea what he was doing w/ snakes.

so we popped duchess....she is a he!! his new name is Lil Poot.

weird thing is , our male syanide, LOVES him. he followes him around w/ his peepee out. lol its hillarious.
but now, its not so funny. our male, wants our other male. Plus, our female mrs b, hates syanide. she hisses at him and strikes at him. i guess breeding them will have to be put on hold.

so we are going to be sexing our other snakes that we have never sexed, we've only taken the words of the people we've adopted them from.

i guess that teaches us not to believe untill you see it. lol.

Hmmmmm

The chasing you descripe, may actually be battling if it is between 2 males, a lot boas and pythons will do this when you put 2 males together.

As for your female not liking males, could be she isn't ready to breed and is trying to spur his advances.....little late in the season to be testing compatibilty at anyrate, I'd let them chill out and wait for next season.

But yeah your right about the "trusting" part...LOL Hell I sometimes re-check sexes even when it comes from a breeder...everyone can make a mistake, or in the case of large facilities with extra employees....snakes could switched out from a drawer or cage by accident without the other person knowing.

Along with what Brad said it could also be that she just doesn't like him in particular. In my personal experiences female pythons can be very picky about who they mate with. She may take to your "new" male but will shun Syanide. I have two female BP's that are that way and seen it in other species.

Just my two cents.

This is why I learned to sex before I started breeding. Too many mis-sexing's or scammers.

I could not agree more.
