Ok well I usually go to this store in Miami Fl called Snakes at the Lakes to buy some animals and to buy my feeders and on their card they have some more stores around the state of florida ( south dixie hy, sunset, and gainsville ) So I was intrested in seeing if the other store were in better shape then that one or in worse shape.. So one day I was board and I had NOTHING TO DO soo I looked up snakes at sunset on google got their adress and headed out soo it took me a while to find their store and anyway I went in and it looked ok then I saw some animals :fear: they did not looks soo good... the only animals that they had that looked good and in good shape were these blood pythons and some boas... The other animals looked skinny and in horrible shape... they had this mangrove monitor ( witch on their kingsnake add says 2ft ) that was in a 10 gal tanks with no lights on and poop every where! They had this black throat the size of mine in another 10 gal and was SUPER SKINNY! with no lights on either... they had like 6 bps in one 40 gal.. they had a frilled lizard with a water dragon in the same cage ( no lights either ) they had this 5ft iggy out of its cage on top of a aquarium witch I though was fake till I touched it and it moved lolz ( they were ''cleaning its cage '' and they had it out but they had 2 extra 8ft cages mhm )... they had a albino burm for sale witch was 850$!!!!! WTF! it was only like 8ft and in an 8ft cage with poop and all... then their adult bt was cool but it was sleeping under its water bowl ( the water bowl was HUGE with poop everywhere )
the other room had some mammals, and some boas but the room was messy ( wtf )
then they had their geckos, scorpians, tarantualas in super small cages they were prolly like 6,4,8 small cages with dead crickets...
ugghh that place was depressing...
Anyway im posting this beacuse I keep seeing their adds on kingsnake and I want people to know what their getting into buying from them....

Never delt with them before....but that certainly doesn't sound good.

Reminds me of this petshop I went to find once here in MN, drove around for 2 hrs looking for it....when I did find it they had rented a back storage area in a local "stop and rob" grocery store....walked in and I couldn't even believe my eyes! The fish tanks were so green you couldn't see the fish, the reptiles were in worse shape than I've ever seen....it was just nasty, think I felt more depressed walking in there than I have in a long time. Thankfully it closed up a year or so back now....felt bad for the critters.

Anyway....got side tracked there, but yeah that sucks man. From that account I wouldn'r risk buying stuff from them.

There is only one pet shop in the town where I live, and it is immaculate!! It almost looks like they clean every tank, cage and enclosure every day. It's just lovely. So when I heard all the horror stories of filthy pet shops, it surprised me. My wife and I went for a drive to the next town (about an hour away), and I was mortified! They have 3 pet shops, and we have now labeled them, the filthy one, they dirty one and the disgusting one. How the hell can people get away with keeping animals in such conditions?? Where are the authorities in situations like this?? It sickens and angers me. And to find out that it is a world wide problem... sad. Very sad.

Sorry to hijack your post.

I would say 3 to 1 is being a bit generous! Even the big box pet stores around here are horrible. Always dirty cages, malnurished animals, improper temps and humidity. Yet they all seem to feels comfortable advertising expert staff, and quality products. This is one area the authorities need to regulate much more thoroughly.

Yea it sucks that the people dont give a hoot about their animals. I saw a episode of animal cops and they took away 3 gators and a african rock python and they put the afrock to sleep cuz they thought he was too agressive... I mean I wouldent mind takeing him in....
I wish I could do something about it... I would like to work with afrock along the road. But thats in a few years!
