New cage I just finished the other night. This one has very special meaning to me, it also took quite a bit longer than some previous models as meticulous cage had to be taken in it's construction. :heh:

LOL....yeah that'd be a big one.
Honestly I think Kings are a bit out of my league for the exact reasons you've already said, everything I've read and heard on them say they are difficult to keep, difficult to clean, just plain difficult...LOL In truth I don't have the room at this point in time to work something that big that is venomous (I like to give myself a wide burth for jumping out of the way...LOL).
At anyrate....this should be a fun one!

I BET!
Yea you might as well dedicate a room for hots only if your going to work with thoes type of animals.... Me I would like to have sooo many animals but I can only have soo much because of money and space.... I would like to have a fine colection of hots on day but thats all in the future!
I think my first step to hots is a HOGNOSE! LOL
then maybe ill work my way up and get a mangrove snake then ill get my first hot just to play it safe ;)

While working non venomous won't prepare you for hots....it would be a good idea to get a flighty nasty non-venomous and start working it on a hook, 1 it will help you hone your skills with the hook, 2 it'll really tell you if indeed you want something of this nature. LOL Try coachwhips or racers...or hell even some of the asiatic rats like Radiated Rats....that'll give a good feel for what your in for, only worse...LOL
Thanks Joel and Jordan....I'm excited as hell!

Ha I can just catch thoes racers in my back yard!
Well first I need a hook lol then i need 1000 hours to get my venemous permit THEN ill get one hot lol
I like cotton mouths, copper heads, eastern diamondback rattlers ill prolly start with one of thoes first then get something more deadly lol
I will eventually get to that level of experience but this year wont be the year maybe not even next year but eventually the day WILL COME!

Hey now! I really like my copperheads! Actually I like anything from the Agkistrodon genus, they are such beautiful snakes. But yes, toxicity wise this is definitely a step up..LOL Should be damn interesting. yeah I'm pretty Jazzed, probably nothing compared to when I see it in person. LOL
I hate california's laws!!!!
LOL...well that's one thing I will say for MN no venomous laws except we can't keep the 2 native species of rattlesnake without a permit....leaves my options pretty well wide open! LOL

A cobra... aren't you scared?!?!;)
Kings are much different to work than any other cobra I've ever worked. They seem to know how bad they are...the others seem to just be full of it!

great looking cage...I forgot, what type of wood do you use again?
The Snake Guru
05-13-2008, 11:33 PM
Thanks much,
Depends on the application, usually pliewood, but for this one I used solid pine being as it is for hots I wanted to get away from dealing with bumping into the frame work of my normal style.

Great looking cage mate! The colour will really make an albino stand out too. I'd love to keep a couple of vens one day, but we've still got little people in the house... so maybe when they're up and out I'll get my vens. Look forward to seeing the pics of your new arrival. Only a couple of weeks buddy, not too long. :D
And as for your advise on snake hooks with a nasty non-ven, hahaha, I've got one of them. I have the most hateful Jungle in the world! I use a hook for her.

05-14-2008, 02:24 AM
Thanks much! Yeah I've got a youngin in the house too but luckily the house was setup perfect for this type of stuff...the upstairs and downstairs is completely seperated there are 2 locked doors she has to go through to get upstairs, and now a 3rd locked door on the hot room...LOL
Hooks do come in handy on stuff like that for sure! LOL Try some Scrubs....that's a fun one too! LOL

This one is 36"x18"x18" he's a sub-adult so it should work well for the time being.
I have a single bent SST hook I made for working hots and nippy arboreals, I haven't ever worked cobras before though so I don't have an actual design around just this snake...LOL Give it time though I may soon enough.
Thanks much!

I believe he is talking about the rough-scaled pythons, Morelia carinata. Ridiculously cool pythons which I believe only one place in the US has at this point.

You got it Matt, that's the one I'm talking about. They are just stunning pythons, I wouldn't mind a couple of those. They fetch a pretty hefty price tag over here though.

I couldn't find any photos that weren't copy righted, so here's a google link. The roughy is the only known Python that has 'keeled' scales. Truly a gorgeous animal.
