that sux

we think our male that is in the bottom half of the tank might be the carier of this disaster. the male hasn't eatten for almost 1 year and has lost 5lbs which is another side of this distroying disease. they have been seperated from the rest of our collection. at the other end of our house; hopefuly none of our others have it.

:(:confused::mad:

thanx for the support everyone and thank you for feeling for us. like scott said we have seperated the 2 that we think are infected from the rest, but the more we think back to the last few months, we think how many of our other snakes have come in contact w/ these 2, or something they've touched, or a mouse that they refused and ya know thinking nothing of it, we'd throw it in someone else's tank to finish. the list goes on and on . we are just hoping for the best. we are bummed cause we dont have the money to put cleo down and possible duce down and then have test done on them to find out if they did have ibd. its rough. we are just trying to make these 2 as comfortable as we can.
i personally have not even watchd this video that scott took. i cant watch it. that is my baby girl and dont want to see her this way. im afraid to look behind the curtain on her tank and see her convulsing like that.

but thank all of you so much for your sympathy and support. its great to have a community of people that care about each other and their pets.

thanx

My heart goes out to you both. I don't know how I would cope if I were in your situation. I don't mean to sound horrible, but if funds were permitting, would you put her down and have an autopsy done?

absolutly. we would do everythng in our power to find out what is going on and/or try to save her, because there is a chance it may not be ibd. it may be a viral infection which also does not have a high survival rate but is much better than ibd.

i would also have every animal in our collection checked if possible.

thank you so much everyone for your kind words.

Kristin and Scott. My heart goes out to you and I sympathize with your IBD experience. It was about this time last year that I realized that IBD was in my collection. I had to euthanize about forty boas as well as destroy all of my racks, caging and equipment. It totally wiped me out. There was much crying.

We know very little about the disease. A live liver biopsy will expose an infected animal however false negatives are possible as well. An animal can be an asymptomatic carrier. They can test negative for IBD but still have it and pass it to other boids. You can never be sure who does or does not have it. That having been said.... The only responsible thing that we can do is euthanize the entire collection. It's a very tough pill to swallow and I hate to put it out there to you. I commend and respect you for coming out in public as you have. Many others have hidden their IBD and spread it around through sales of infected animals.

There are other things that affect boas neurologically. Get confirmation of IBD before you cross that bridge. It's a hard thing to go through. I fully understand. My collection currently is all of four snakes, only one of which is a boa. If you would like to discuss this further I would be happy to pm you my cell #. Just drop me a line if you are interested.

Best of luck to you both....

Thanks for coming over Art.
Guys I asked Art to swing in and see if he could shed some light on the situation as I knew he had went through the same thing He is a real easy guy to talk to and he may be able to ease you through the situation at any rate I have never been there so I figured I would abuse my friendship with Art lmao and see if he could help out..

again thanks a bunch Art...

thanks so much sam for hooking us up w/ art. he did give us a possitive outlook on the situation since we've talked w/ him.

and thanks for everyone's help and concern.

as for the rest of our collection we are treating them each w/ individual attention and love untill the end whenever it may come, years, months, days, whatever. they will always be our babies.
we will see what the future holds for our little herp family.:)

At that point the snakes are just suffering and its better to just stop keeping them alive and put them in the freezer.

The freezer is not an easy way to go for any reptile. The best humane method of euthanasia comes from the vet.

it's hard to watch that video. you guys have my condolances and prayers. hopefully it's something else, even if it doesn't seem likely. isn't IBD a pretty rare disease?
