those are the kind im planning on getting, sumatran, i heard they're the ones most likely to be sweet tempered, i found a place called s and s exotics, its really close to my house, they sell bloods and so ill go out there eventually when they have a lot of babies, and find the one that i like best, i really like the way the orange phase looks on blood pythons

There are actually 3 different species of blood/ short tail pythons. The sumatran/ malaysian blood python (Python brongersmai), Borneo short tail python (Python breitensteini), and the sumatran short tail (Python curtus). brongersmai is the largest that can get up to 9ft and comes in a variety of colors from red to brown to almost yellow. breitensteini are mostly brown and tend to max out at around 6 feet. Also, most borneos have some degree of dorsal striping. Curtus is typically the smallest species. There are actually two forms of curtus: the orange headed phase and the black/chrome headed phase. The orange headed phase maxes out around 3 feet in length while the other phase can get up to 6. Most likely the 2 phases of curtus are different species as there is enough morphological differences between the two just no one has done the actual work on it. Also brongersmai inhabits malaysia and the northern part of sumatra while curtus inhabits the southern part of sumatra with a large mountain range in between the two species. Hope this helps.
