Blaptic dubia roaches are the only ones I have experience with. I've got pictures on my site of males and females.

Click on the picture of the roach at the bottom of the page and you can see examples of males and females.

I breed lobster roaches for my dragon. Big plastic tub with small undertub heater with vaseline lining the top 5 inches. Never had any get out. Easy to breed, quiet and they don't smell. Much better than crickets. However, they do climb glass. Depending on what you are using them for, might want to look for a species that DOESN'T climb glass. I have to individually hand feed my dragon his. They WILL get out of his enclosure. I just throw pieces of potato in with them occasionally as food. However they will eat just about anything.

I currently have two large garbage cans filled each with either hissers or lobster roaches. They have a heat pad underneath and the tops are lined with the teflon paint (bug stop at pro-exotics). It keeps them in the bins and doesn't get disgusting like vasaline does after a few weeks. The hissers are fed just vegetation while the hissers get the vegetation and some dog food. Both breed quickly and can be used to supplement you animals' diets. They are simple to care for so either or both would work for what you wanted.
