LOL....well the absolutely beautiful Monocle Cobra has arrived, and has been placed within her enclosure without incident.

I will try to get some shots up tonight, I tried to take some once we got her squared away but damn almighty it was like some hopped up speed freak on a cruise kick, needless to say she's going to be a very fun one to work. Made putting the 2 new copperheads away seem like barely a hiccup in the plan....LMFAO

She is really fantastic though, clad in all sorts of pinks....gonna give my Argentine Cross a run for her money..LOL

Any just thought I'd drop my and say I have survived round 1 without any issues. LOL

This is definately unacceptable Brad

You got us all excited last night by letting us know that your girl was gonna be here today... so we (and I'm sure I speak for everyone) were expecting pictures... (note the "s" at the end of "pictures"... PLURAL, meaning MANY... the exact opposite of "absolutely none").

I'm saddened. :(

I have found that copperrheads are far easier to work with, but in my experience the monicals and egyptians always kept it more interesting.

I would defeinitely have to agree with you on that one so far! LOL The Coppers I have all seem to ride the hook extremely well, and rarely cause me any issues what so ever.

I love Cobras. That is one hot my lady is balking at us getting. I am nuts and want a pair but we watch a lot of herps shows and cobras really scare her. This will take some time but I think I can wear her down, LOL. I have my eyes set on a pair of morroccan cobras.

Yeah this has been one I had been gunning for ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper...LOL

It did take some convincing though....even with my wife having a 4 year degree in zoology...LOL

Understand that. With that degree comes a clear understanding of what that snake can really do to you. Not that we don't. Unfortuneately some people aquire venomous snakes for the wrong reasons. I know you understand what I mean there.
Cheers Brad.

Couldn't have said it better myself!!! And these are the people that make it hard on the responsible hot owners.

Go right ahead LeRoy. Glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks much. To tell you the truth she's a big pansey-ass...LOL I didn't much believe it at first, a very good friend of mine had told me this would probably be the case as we had talked in depth about working them before I actually got her. They put on a hell of a show but that is really all it is...a show, first chance she gets she'll turn tail and run as fast as she can. LOL Kind of reminds me of a deadly hognose...only faster. LOL So to answer your question, her temperment really isn't all that bad, it's a fast, nervous snake, with the potential for harm yet she's more intent on getting away from you than getting into a confrontation. Granted this is a description for her and her alone...she's the only cobra I have worked to date so I would not label them all as such.

Right on. Like any species, venomous or not, there are variants among animals of the same species. Our sidewinder is very cute and a very calm snake. My lady always says,"That snake can lure you into a false sense of security which has the tendency to invite complacency". So to treat them all like a loaded fire arm is a good policy. Once again Brad, very nice animal.

The Snake Guru

Absolutely....that can be said for so many snakes....you just feel it double on the hot stuff...LOL
I have to say though, the stuff I have been working has been pretty decent, non of them are particularily intent on getting after you, but as you said, I always give them a wide burth and a whole lot of respect....it would only take once for a person to realize the serious mistake they made in trusting something of that nature.

Thanks much.

I occationally work with and East African Gaboon Viper. Like a pacman frog, he doesn't move much. At feeding time they have the strike speed approx 3x faster than a rattler and can deliver up to 30x the venom needed to kill you. He has never struck at anything but his food, but touch him with a hook and he is at the front of the cage VERY quickly hissing like a large monitor. Most snakes I have worked with almost always hide when you put them back in the cage. Not him. he sits at the front glass for a couple hours hissing at any movement in the room. LOL.

I have seen those action....and man those be some scary snakes! LOL An issue compounded by the fact that everyone I talked to says they don't hook or ride well at all. LOL Still they are a very beautiful viper.

That's true. Better to keep the cage close to the floor and either coax them across the floor with hooks or coax them into another secure container straight out of the cage door. Very heavy snake. They hiss very loud. But a truely fascinating animal.
