No crying-he was actually laughing at me b/c I freaked out. I was running all over the house and then tried to clean up the mess and he kept telling me "take some picutres"

Probably a normal human reaction. When I use to teach security personnel basic hand to hand one of the tricks was to get a good hit on someones nose. There is an involuntary bodily reaction with a good nose hit that makes your eyes tear up.
I would say he took a good nose hit.

Also knowing Sam as well as I do he was probably tired as hell. So that could explain it.

no not scared just pissed that i had gotten complacent but well go two years without a good bite and you get a little slack
