As some of you might know, I picked up a cool little blood. He is active (when not hiding) very friendly but doesnt even look at his food. I have offered f/t and live. We have had him since June 22nd. Any suggestions?
Meet,BlackJack. He has a small heart and diamond in his pattern. I will try and get a picture of them soon. Thanks in advance for your help!

I've never had a problem with the bloods eating. Are you trying mice or rats? Day or night? Did you try a live rat pup in a paper bag overnight? Is he in a busy part of the house? Are there enough hides for him to feel secure?
I've got a stubborn ball right now that I'm going through the same thing with.

I was pretty much going to ask the same questions....while my experience with these is limited I've heard that youngsters favor live prey.

The guy I got him from said he was feeding on live mice hoppers. I tried a f/t rat a couple days after we got him home just for kicks. I went and got a mouse hopper and put it in his cage over night. I didnt try the bag trick though. Mabey I can put him in a small steralite container. He was in the living room but has been moved to the snake room. Low traffic. He has all kind of places to hide. He burrows under his substrate and hides under his foam rock. He and the mouse acually seem to be friends. I did remove the mouse after 24 hours because I dont want live mice in with my snakes. His hot side is at 91 with an ambient temp of around 82

has he been handled a lot since you got him? It's only been just over two weeks; maybe he just needs time to settle in.

Put him in a 6 qt sterlite.. give him a hide and water bowl and keep ambient temps around 84.. doesn't really need a big gradient or a big cage at this point. I keep my substrate a tad bit damp when there smaller but as long as they dont get wrinkly they should be ok. Anyways leave the guy alone for atleast a couple days and then throw a mouse in there after dark, sometimes a full grown mouse will entice them a little more than a little guy. If that doesn't work let me know, might just need a little while to settle in though?

Never had reallyyy good luck with the nice cheap finds at shows, every once in awhile you luck out but your always taking a risk.
I will let you know how that goes. I wouldnt call him a cheap find though. I paid $150.00 for him. I dont know the going rate for a striped blood but the guy was asking $200.00. Thanks for the advice. i will definatly try that.

when we got our little Hex, she was weeks old, and coverd in mites. she was very weak and uninerested in food. i started to forcefeed her gentely w/ very tiny rat fuzzies. once the shoulders were in her throat, she ate it by her self. she just needed some coaxing. after a few weeks, she started to eat on her own but i kept her food smaller so she had an easier time eating it.
now she's doin great!
so my suggestion, if in a month or two your blood doesnt come around, try to force feed her w/ a smaller food item. it wont hurt her as long as the prey isnt too large. like everyone else said they are good eaters, live or thawed.
good luck w/ your new baby. she's beautiful!!!
