Hi guys I have never breed snakes before but this year im giving it a try. I have to albino greens and I introduced the male to her and everythin went good she kind of huffed up and pushed him off her for the first night he was in there now he has been in there for 4 days and I have personally seen them locked up twice. Now my questions are how long should I leave him in there with her? And one of them went to the bathroom tonight and I jsut got them out to clean te cage and looked under the male and there was some red stuff on the under side of him it looked like blood but there was only a very small amount barely visiable I wiped it off and looked to try to see if he had been bitten by her or something but there were no marks and I cant find anything on her is this something to worry about or anything? Im just nervous Ive never breed and I just want my snakes to be healthy and not hurt or anything. Also how do you know when the female is gravid I mean since I have already seen them locked up should I jsut not handle her I heard that can harm the babies and if so how do you clean there cage when they are gravid? Once again Im sorry for rambling Im just extremely nervous about this whole thing im scared one of them are going to get hurt or something. I mean I would love for her to have some pretty babies but there safety comes first to me. Thanks to anyone that replys

From what I've heard you only leave the male in for a few days then pull him out for a couple, then rinse, lather, & repeat the cycle a couple more times.

You could get lucky from one introduction, but its better to be safe than sorry. Introduce the male every couple of days(3 days in, 1-2 days off) until you see ovulation. There is an average days in some literature for days from copulation to ovulation, but I just watch for the female to swell from ovulating. Then you wait on the pre-lay/post ovulatory shed around 18-22 days from ovulation. Then about 30 days(+/- 2-3 days typically) you should see some type of eggs. :)

The only time we pull the males are for small feedings and when she swells. Bebos idea works also especially if you have the animals and the time to switch pairs around....if you don't need to know the sire and dam specifics.

Thats the same routine I've used when I only had a a few pairs or even now with multiples. Males tend to lose interest to some degree after 2-3 days typically. Giving him a break to eat and/or chill usually reinvigorates him. Many times its like a whole new girlfriend each tmie he's reintroduced. ;)

This is something that also works well for me and the wife...even after thirteen years of marriage, LOL. Sorry all. I couldn't resist.
