So last night about an hour before I had to get up for work my wife comes in and wakes me up crying. "honey I just ran over the dog " she said. I jumped out of bed and could hear him whinning as I ran through the house. When I got to him I could tell he is in pain. I lifted him gently and he cried and nipped ever so gently in protest. We go to the vet and they hand us an estimate on a piece of paper after they do an x-ray. I am reading this paper and it says "Your pets health is our #1 concern." almost $800 is what they wanted. I told them I only have a little over $100 dollars until next Thurs. and asked if they would take a payment. "we can't do that" said the vet. So basicly our pets health is only #1 if we have cash in hand that realy pisses me off I think I am going to go back to school. Unfortunatly euthanization was the only thing we could afford so my little Nugget is no longer with us over a severly broken leg.:rip:
I already miss the little guy pulled in the drive when I got home from work and didn't see the happy dance he does when I get home.

see. thats what gets me so mad. all they want is the money, they dont think of the real benifit which is the life on the line. we had an incident where we paid tons of money for our cat to live yet the vet put him down. yea after we paid all the money we still didnt get to get it back. even though all they did was put him down after we gave the money to them for them to make him live. we didnt want him put down. i felt so disgusted. i guess its just the way vets run. :(

omg man i am so sorry. there are website online that raise money for emergency vet cost because they are so outrageous. go to yahoo, and search for vet help cost, ect and you will find them, then you submit your emergency situation, and most of the time it will be paid for or helped out extremely. i know it doesn't help for now but next time it might save a pet.

and im sorry for you loss, vets disgust me, they go to vet school for their "love of animals"' and when they get out they graduate with the love of "$$$$$$$$$$$$$$" vet cost rape, but i guess thats because most people dont have pet insurance, if you have pet insurance you would have only had to pay 50.00 co-pay.

we had a bad situation a couple of years ago, we surrendered our great danes zeus and roxanne to a rescue in northern michigan, well they were there for about a month and a half and i had this feeling in me heart something wasnt right, so i got in my car and drove 8 hours to the rescue, i get there and my dogs are almost dead. they were completely emaciated, cuts, scares, wounds, decubitus ulcers, all over there bodys, this lady had them for a month and a half and almost killed two health dogs. i wanted to kill the stupid witch. i grab them get them in my car tell her ill be back for her, and i break every speed limit and law to get back home to the er vet. i turned a 8 hour drive into like 6 hours.

we get to the vets they take them in and its going to be 1600.00 per dog, me and my wife look at each other and start crying cause we didn't have that kind of money. so we sleep on the floor for 8 hours and finally its time for them to take them home, they lady calls up to the desk, ok you owe us 350.00 were like what, and she says 350.00 and behind her stands the doctors and assistants that were working with our dogs, and they were all crying, and they were like just get them home and get them back to health. it was the worst case of abuse they had ever seen. so they give us all kinds of meds and ointments, and special dog food for their stomachs since they hadn't eaten in at least a month.

it took 8 months for the full recovery, and nothing every happened to the lady, the animal control, and the police up in the up could have cared less, she was lucky she didn't live in Lansing, or the animal control here would have locked her and thrown out the key.

That really is horrible for them to pretty much make you put your dog down just because you didn't have the money right then. I'm really sorry to hear your story. Go give your wife a big hug, i'm sure she could use it.

I am so sorry for you guys. Luckily our vet lets us make payments but the Pet Hospital (which we've unfortunately had to use) does not.

Our condolences to you and your family. That Vet is an asshole. I have known a few vet around here that would work with you in that situation.

Please give your wife a huge hug and let her know it wasn't her fault. Terrible things just happen sometimes. I ran over our cat in the driveway about 5 years ago with my wife and son in the car. I feel like crap every time I think about it.

Oh man I am way sorry for your loss. I've had TONs of vet bills pile up in the passed year for our dog. You did what you could.

It's unfortunate but in every medical/professional field there are a large percentage of people who "do it for the money." I am fortunate enough to not have this be an issue but I have friends who have gone through the same problem. Last summer my friends dog was run over, his hips and legs were crushed. There was no alternative to euthanasia, it happened on the weekend and emergency vet clinics were the only option. They wouldn't put the animal down because he couldn't get the money till monday. They mad them take the dog home and wait 2 days to put it to sleep.

I am truly sorry for your loss, it's not easy but the time will heal the wounds. Most of all be sure to comfort your wife this has to be horrible for her.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss! That really sucks!

Our vet here is the same way, if you aren't willing to pay right then, they won't treat the animal. Thankfully, I've never been in a position where an animal was that ill or hurt and I couldn't afford it (had to have a cat put to sleep--feline leukemia--and I was trying to get enough money together just for that at the time). I can kind of see why some vets do that, though. Lots of people probably don't want to make the payments they've agreed to. But still, they could try it once with someone and see if that person would make the payments. If that person didn't make the payments as agreed, then they'd know not to do it for them next time . . . I dunno. That's just my 2 cents.

Thank you eveyone. Another real kick to this situation is we have been dealing with this vet for years. I rescued a burm 10 years ago and when I brought him in to use his scale and get some meds for his RI he refered me to my father. So its not like he doesnt know me and my family. The other vet we use wouldnt take payments either though they always have and they used to treat all our exotics except for our herps.

I hate that I needed some blood work done on one of my bp's and I went to a new vet because she was closer and I was 11 dollars short and said that I would bring it in 2 days later and she wouldn't do it. Needless to say i don't see her anymore I go to the vet that is a little more expensive but will take payments or at least let you float for a few dollars til you come in again
