How about a place for people to post any adoptions or rescues they may have or know of. Mabey it will be enough to help out a crawly critter

That's an idea.

Though if it does happen- We won't be seeing any of the following:

"You can adopt so and so for a low "re-homing fee" of $100.00 or any amount for that matter.

If it goes up it would be for Adoption meaning no cash exchanges hands.

That really burns me when I see "Adopt this animal for $" and I could jump online and buy it from the breeder cheaper.

In that case, I have a hingeback tortoise and an Irian Jaya Blue Tongued Skink for adoption. No adoption fees. Just pay for the shipping and they will be sent to you. Shoot me a PM for pics.

These animals belonged to some friends of mine that are divorcing. They went their separate ways and left all of their animals alone for an extended period of time. These are two of the three animals that actually survived and appear healthy.

Hope I didn't jump the gun there Brad. If I did, I apologize.

ok I agree with being against people who charge a "adoption" fee but it is the same as a selling fee but I have an adoption fee for our rescue and here is why. People with no experience or intentions of researching will take whatever they can if it is free. Adopting out online is even worse for this reason cause you can not meet the person and make a judgement call based on their character. Next thing you know you are giving an animal to a person who may sentance it to death all cause hey it was free. So if a person is willing to spend a "small" amount of money on an animal then they may take the time to learn about their "investment" if you will. To many times lil Johnny told his parents he wants an animal and since it is free why not then lil Johnny starts torturing or letting lose the new animal. The second reason is I have seen people on forums btu I will refrain from names right now that will take in free animals and then sell them. There is now way to really prevent both of these but I can say I believe a small fee in comparison to free is allot better decision. Now if I know the person first hand I know their experince and capabilties then I will not hesitate to give them an animal for free because I know it will not be resold or neglected.

I agree both ways. I think that selling and adoption are 2 different things. A friend of mine runs a california recognized rescue here and always charges a flat fee of $75 just because she doesn't want to have just anyone picking up animals for free. I think there should be a "fee" ceiling???

I agree on both. If its a rescue shelter of some type I can see charging something because there is upkeep in something like that. Anyone recieving a rescue will most likely have to pay shipping so there is a nominal fee. As far as someone taking a rescue and selling it, well you can look at that in a couple differen ways... The person receiving the rescue might be a person whos see's a way to make a buck. This person could be someone who is concerned about the wellbeing of the animal or someone who isnt. There is no way of knowing. However, if someone is getting rid of something its for a reason. Most likely because they are no longer to care for it for some reason or another snd if the odds are in the favor of getting someone who cares getting the animal its a good thing. There are so many dealers (prob all) at reptile shows who will sell anyone anything with no regard if the person has any knowledge of the bermese python they want to buy. This is why we need rescue shelters. I know that if something came up I would have a hard time getting rid of a 15 foot snake unless I found a place like this that could help me out. I can prove it. LOL. Anyone want a green bremese python 1 year old and awsome?

unfortunalty we will always have the ugly in the world. We can only "prey" for the best. I just hope everone on this forum at least feel the way we do.

i will take burms all day long especially a green lol.

now about this adoption fee, it kinda defeats the purpose of adopting after shipping.
when i can locally buy just about anything that is healthy ect, doesnt have a bad history for the same cost as adoption fee and shipping cost

see when you through in these extra charges most time its cheaper to buy brand new than adopt and then you have adopted animals stuck with no home cause someone is trying to make a buck.

In some cases I could maybe see an adoption fee:

For example, perhaps the animal had been burned by something (heat lamp, heat rock, etc.) and whoever rescued the animal had some money tied up in vet bills to make it healthy again. Once it was healthy, they decided to adopt it out. They might want to recoup some or all of their money from the vet bill. That I could see.

Otherwise, I agree with Brad here. Shipping cost only.

Private Persons Adopt out: This is the one where I believe there should be no fee, save the cost of shipping the animal out.

I do see a fee being applicable if you are an actual rescue shelter, adoption agency, society, ect. Most of these are non-profit but they still need to recoop some costs for any medical treatment the animal got, care, food, ect. Though I'll tell ya...I have seen some "fees" from certain places (supposed rescue centers) that looked a lot more like price tags...at anyrate.....here on the forum we'll be running it like first one I said.

Reminds me of Craigslist now. I'm seeing spider ball pythons for an 'adoption fee of $350" lol
