As some of you know I have a baby savannah monitor just a few months old. He died this morning in his cage near his favorite hide out. He stopped eating a few days ago so we were going to go to the vet with him to see what was wrong. We checked in his mouth to see it might be his teeth but everything was fine in his mouth. we barried him next to my favorite tree outside:( was really an emotional day for me today. He was my little baby boy

Maybe it's my fault, I guess I didn't try hard enough to make him eat and I should have force fed shouldnt I? He was one little animal I didn't want to lose in my life:(

I wouldn't blame yourself. Its common with savannahs - the majority are wild caught. Some of them just wont eat.

So sorry to hear El.

Youngsters can be a bit tricky, constantly have to be watched....force feeding probably would not helped.

The fact that he quit eating only a couple days ago and then died, leads me to believe he probably got impacted...though it's hard to say for sure without a Post Mortum.

Definately don't beat yourself up over it. It's a somewhat common thing with baby savs.
So many come into the country with parasites or some type of sicknesses in the early stages and people here think they look fine, then they get worse. In alot of cases there is nothing that can be done and I'm sure you did everything right to care for him. Sorry for your loss

I feel for you. I lost two babies recently. I believe Brad is correct. I think mine got impacted from the calcium sand I had them on. They were too small for it.
