My female 06 nigritus rolled on me yesterday that is the second young animal to die in 4 months. Today we are going to start collecting samples to do parasite checks. I have heard good things about panacure but have no real information on it so I guess what I am looking for is dosing info and what parisites it treats. I can acess any meds necessary so if I need to I will just go with what I alredy know.
Thanks in advance Rick

What it treats:
Fenbendazole- (Hoechst brand names Panacur and Safe-Guard, Intervet Panacur and Panacur Rabbit) is a broad spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic used against gastrointestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, the taenia species of tapeworms, pinworms, aelurostrongylus, paragonimiasis, strongyles and strongyloides and can be administered to sheep, cattle, horses, fish, dogs, cats, rabbits and seals.
Dosing depends on what style you get Tabs, Paste, Injection....instructions and dosings are always on the package so you should follow those instructions.

I know this is an old thread that was answered...but I wanted to throw out that the book...
"Understanding Reptile Parasites" by Roger J. Klingenberg, DVM
has been the best $14.95 I have spent to ensure healthier herps.
I have brought it to the vet appointments as well.
It literally saved our tortoise (the vet wanted to administer a drug, Ivermectin, that would have killed him...it is also lethal for skinks)
I like it because it has charts for the parasite, the drugs, dosage and comments. It also explains the life cycles so you know truly what you are dealing with and why.
I have found that when we have had to treat for parasites that using a probiotic has helped maintain the herps appetite and prevented the runny stools that can lead to dehydration.
Carolina Pet Supply and Beautiful Dragons both carry great probiotics.
Hope all is well.

Ya know it's interesting you should mention that! A friend of mine actually sent me the link to that and it looked very informative! Needless to say I've got a copy on the way...Looks like a good reference book to have on hand.

Yea I was actually looking into picking up a copy a friend was checking out some of my books and most are way outdated. It seems it goes into a little more detail than some of my other material. The big book I use covers other exotics I used to work with also. (Diseases of exotic animals medical and surgical management) Wallach Boever. But treatments and meds have come a long way since 1983
just got that book last week very very informative good addition to any collection
So do you guys have a microscope to run fecals on your own too?
It is tempting to invest in one from Beautiful Dragons...it would pay for itself pretty fast...
The vet we go to charges $60- per fecal PLUS $60- per visit PLUS the cost of meds:eek:
And he suggests fecals on everything twice a year...MmmmHmmmm...Ya:rolleyes:

we have actually debating investing in a microscope and sonogram machine - both can be picked up pretty cheap on ebay.
What is the sonogram machine for? humans or herps?
