Hello,
I'm new here. I have been out of the reptile hobby for a little bit after having to get rid of my entire collection of retics after Iowa made them illegal to own. I have decided to jump back in again and start over. I have decided to go with burms and I am now the proud owner of a green female and a het male. I'm planning on hanging around here for a bit. There is a lot to learn and to see. In the past I have all but ignored the burms and now I can't figure out why. ;)
Anyway...here is my first question to this board. I came across a pclassified for a female burm on kingsnake called a "bedrock" burm. She is a really cool looking animal but I'm not sure she is worth the $500 asking price. I could almost swear I saw one like here at a reptile sale and was told that the pattern is just a freak mutation that pops up once in a while but ....you can't reproduce it. I was pretty much told that it was just a very nice patterned normal and nothing more. If that is true there is no way I would shell out that type of money. I would just wait for another one to pop up somewhere that looks like her for a more reasonable price. Anyway..the link is below to the classified. any thoughts would be greatly apppreciatedhttp://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=7&de=619947

Welcome to the forum!
While I'm far from the resident burm expert, from what I see in the ad, that is a stunning "normal" double het. But nothing more than that....unless I saw pictures of the rest of the clutch, male and female that produced it, ect. There is no genetic basis for the "pattern" he describes and it would seem to me the asking price is on the high side by at least $200 (if not more).
But that is my opinion on the subject.

That is pretty much what I was thinking myself. I would pay higher then the typical price for a normal for the one shown or one like it but not THAT much more. :)

I am going to look through Trinity's clutch and see what I have but I do believe I have something similar to that from her clutch and it would be the same price as normals as it is only a double het...
In My Opinion it is only worth that,
But as I have often said before although when I see a burm for sale I automatically have a price attached to it in my head There may be someone out there who just can not live without that animal so the price does not matter to them.
And on the same note the person selling it may be torn and he does not really want to sell it but the number that it is worth in his head to let it go in this case would be $500.00.
So by no means am I saying this guy is trying to crap on someone but giving it another name and adding the hefty price tag it sure would seem that way.

I would be very interested if you had one like her. If you have something like it send me a photo or two to my email. If I was to like the animal I saw I could have a paypal payment sent out to you on Friday.

Foxy is a very nice looking animal. I love burms with the lighter colors and nice contrast.. However........I still like the one in the classified even better. :D

I'd be willing to bet money it doesn't look like that in person....the pic was over saturated. Someone was playing a little before they posted that up...LOL

The one in the pic is a what many het green normals look like pattern and hue wise. Not all do. But it is just someone putting a new name to a burm, nothing more. He did kinda state it was an opinion but it could be taken as a renaming or tag. I had some of those last season but I think i'm out of them now.

My luck just isn't very good. I still can't seem to track one down. Well...if you find that you do have one...keep me in mind.

i agree w/ you, Jim. and i dont think i'd pay that much for one either. it also reminds me of a blonde burm, which are very beautiful. (i'd take a "Foxy" over a blonde anyday)

I just bought a baby burm 2 weeks ago at my local herp shop and it is identical to that "bedrock" burm. Only paid $90 for it. When my camera cooperates i will post some pics for you to compare.

Unfortunately no, but I appreciate the offer. I've grown attached to the little nipper but I will keep you posted on his well being if you like. Just shed today and getting bigger everyday! Any good name ideas?

Good deal. I'm still waiting for something to pop up that grabs my attention like that one. I have had a few more photos get sent my way of ones that were supposed to be close to it but they weren't quite close enough. Actually...one of them was nothing like it. :-P So...yeah...I'm still looking.
Damn me for being so picky. lol
