well, the day has come. today our oldest boa, Duce, passed away at 10 yrs old. he had been sick a LONG time, almost 2 yrs. we have had many test done on him from parasite test to disorders to IBD tests, and everything always came back negative. our vet was as stumped as us. one day, almost 2 yrs ago, Duce just stopped eating. we tired everything that we could, took advice from our vet and our fellow herpers, and nothing ever worked. towards the end, we kept our hope up and kept him as comfortable as possible, but today I checked him when we were cleaning tanks (duce was not kept w/ the rest of the collection in case it was ever contagious) and he had passed.
we will miss him more than words can express. Duce was my father's first snake and we took him in about a yr and a half ago when my dad had moved to montana. Duce was the reason why I first became interested in snakes and was the first snake Kristin and I had ever handled. now he is at rest and is no longer suffering and we know he is in a better place. it will always be a mystery to why he was sick, and we hope that he was never in any pain, which he never showed. till the end, he was always friendly and active, and forever swimming in his water dish. this makes the second boa that we have lost this yr, and each time it doesnt get any easier. I am posting some pics of him in his memory, and so all of you can see what a great snake he was.
