View Full Version : How Often is Too Often with Shedding?

Ok... this is kinda weird. In all my dealings with snakes, all sizes and species, I have never come across one who sheds as much as Julius.

Normally, babies shed more often, and it slows (of course) with age/growth rate.

Far as I know, a 9 year old, 6 meter female should shed... what, once every 3-4 months tops, right?

Julius sheds EVERY MONTH. It seems that a few days after each feed, she's blue. She has no parasites, housing is clean and all seems well... so is it just growth? She's not fed too much, usually 2 medium or 1 good sized rabbit a month.

But srsly... every 30 days, I get a new -usually fully intact- 6 meter long skin.

Anyone got any input on this one?

Nothing is set in stone as far as when and if snakes shed to much....while it is true on average young snakes shed more often than older snakes, they pretty much shed when they want or need too.

Nothing to worry about, and nothing to be done about it.

I know every animal is different, but it just blows my mind to think that even at this size (biggest in Germany) she still grows at such a rate!

Yeah it definitely is a bit out of the ordinary....but hey he'll look his best almost all the time at that rate! LOL
